Free-cutting steel and bars for machining
The range includes free-cutting, structural, engineering and stainless steel bars, as well as brass bars. For machining applications, specify the full grade designation, cross-section and size. Round, hexagonal and square bars have different dimensional ranges and tolerances. The tables include 11SMnPb30/37, 11SMn30/37, C45E and 42CrMo4 steels, plus the listed stainless and brass grades.
Drawn, peeled or ground
The process, tolerance and surface condition should match your machining requirements. Include bar length, quantity, tolerance and quality documents in the enquiry. Grinding and polishing to h6, h7 or h8 are checked individually. Non-standard dimensions and delivery arrangements require confirmation in the quotation.
Selection and ordering — practical questions
How should free-cutting steel bars be specified?
State the full grade, such as 11SMn30, 11SMn37, 11SMnPb30 or 11SMnPb37, rather than simply “free-cutting steel”. Add the cross-section, size, tolerance and length. The free-cutting bar table covers round, hexagonal and square sections; availability of the required combination is confirmed in the quotation.
Does one diameter range apply to every bar finish?
No. Drawn and peeled bars, as well as different cross-sections, have separate ranges and tolerances. Use the table entry for the required specification. If subsequent grinding or special surface requirements apply, include them in your initial enquiry.
